Three Fascinating Books I Read This Year
As the year ends, I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your continued support! If you have a friend or family member that you think might benefit from these posts, they can subscribe here or on the home page of my blog's website, Financial Field Notes.
Here are three books that I enjoyed this past year -
Outlive – A detailed but easy-to-understand manual on the science of living a long and healthy life. The author, Peter Attia, is an MD who has made his life work all about longevity and this book encapsulates decades of research. Whereas most books in this space piggyback on recent trends, he tackles optimal exercise, sleep, nutrition, and more from a purely scientific angle.
Black Edge – A behind-the-scenes look into the world of hedge funds and insider trading. The book mostly follows the story of Steven Cohen, the founder of SAC Capital Advisors, and his involvement in dark illegal trading activities. This was a great recommendation from a client of mine!
The Economist Hour – A history of economics and the monetary theories that influence modern fiscal policy. In an era where financial markets are so heavily influenced by Fed policy, I have found myself increasingly curious about why Fed policy is the way it is and the history behind it. This book provided a thorough background of policy from 1950 to today.
